Artist Statement
Photography, to me, is a source of joy — the joy of creation. I believe there is a fundamental difference between taking pictures and creating photographs, and I strive to keep this distinction at the forefront of my mind every time I press the shutter.
I do not create for others. I do not submit my work to competitions, nor do I seek superficial approval through social media likes. My photography is a deeply personal pursuit — a way of fulfilling higher needs that, in some form, reside in every human being. Some shape beautiful clay vessels, others craft unique furniture or write film scripts. I create photographs.
My focus lies in the people, places, spaces, and ordinary things that surround us. I attempt to place the human being within these contexts, often at the center — which naturally draws me toward portraiture. Still, much of my work is documentary in nature. I document time, space, and the hidden elements within them. For myself.
